Neighbourhood Guide: Lonsdale

North Vancouver’s Lonsdale is a fast-developing, family-friendly gem in the heart of the North Shore. The neighbourhood is not only home to countless awesome local shops, restaurants, and parks, but is just a 12-minute Seabus ride away from downtown Vancouver.

Whether you’re a growing family searching for some quiet, or a young professional who still wants a bit of city and culture, Lonsdale is a great neighbourhood to call your next home.

Living in Lonsdale

One of the biggest perks of living in Lonsdale is location. The Seabus offers a quick, car-less way to get to Downtown Vancouver, while being on the North Shore puts you in range to some of the best hikes in the lower mainland: Lynn Valley, Capilano, Deep Cove, and many others.

Lower Lonsdale is also home to a charming area to find great food, drinks, and places to sit around and hang out. The most popular spot is The Quay for its panoramic views, but walk a few minutes along the water and you’ll reach the newly-constructed Shipyards District: the location of a fantastic waterpark for kids and a weekly night market during the summer.

Food & Drink

You’ll find a bunch of North Shore staples to eat and drink in Lonsdale, like Earnest Ice Cream, Bowen Island Pizza, Anatoli, and Buddha-full. With those well-known spots, there’s also a growing list of new restaurants and coffee shops popping up across Lonsdale.

Nemesis Coffee, a highly respected coffee shop in Vancouver, recently opened up its second location at the Polygon Gallery in Lower Lonsdale. If pizza is your thing, Pizzeria Farina opened up only a few blocks up from the water.

A quick list of some other places worth a visit: Streetcar Brewing, Two Daughters Bake Shop, and Harmony Donut Shop.

Shopping & Groceries

For local vegetables, meat, and bread — even clothing, jewelry, and ceramics — we suggest The Quay Market. The Quay is home to an amazing market with a ton of local vendors and shops.

If you’re just looking for a quick grocery run without the traffic, there’s a new and large Whole Foods in Central Lonsdale to get the essentials.

Parks & Dogs

The North Shore Spirit Trail along the water is the best path to walk or jog in the Lonsdale area, especially if you have a dog. Only minutes into your walk, you’ll reach Waterfront Park, a popular park for kids with spectacular views of Downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park.

If you’re looking for other dog-friendly parks, Victoria Park in Central Lonsdale is the largest in the area.
